How To Give Yourself A Facial At Home

Facials are a great way to maintain a healthy complexion. A professional facial is great but there are plenty of spa- worthy products to give you an at-home facial for a fraction of the cost.

1. Cleanse

Double cleansing is the perfect way to start a facial. Cleansing your face twice ensures that your face is truely clean and all the makeup and products on your skin come off. You can use any two types of cleansers or just remove your makeup with wipes or micellar water, then cleanse with warm water.

2. Exfoliate

Chemical exfoliation is the best option when doing a facial. Peels provide a deeper, non-abrasive exfoliation, while killing bacteria, lifting hyperpigmentation and speeding up cell turnover. They dissolve a layer of dead skin in a simple swipe.

3. Steam

Steaming your face allows toxins to exit pores, softens skin and preps your face for the mask. Most of you won’t own a personal steam machine, so a bowl filled with hot water and a towel over the head is fine. You can also take a hot shower to open up your pores.

4. Tweeze

After the steam, your pores are very open. This is a perfect time to tweeze out any unwanted eyebrow hairs as the hairs will easily slide out.

5. Mask

Masking is one of the most important steps of a facial. Allowing a nourishing mask to sink into your skin for a prolonged period of time lets all the active ingredients to get down to work. Sheet masks are ideal for this as the sheet acts as a barrier so the serum can’t escape.

6. Treat

To customise a facial to your own specific skin concerns, choose a serum or oil that has targeted results. They penetrate deeply into the skin and are packed with potent active ingredients.

7. Moisturise

The final step to a facial is to moisturise and lock in all the products you just applied. Use a lighter cream in the hotter months and a richer cream in winter. This will allow the ingredients to soak in and make you wake up with glowing, clear skin.
